Police home loans

Home loans for police officers

You run towards trouble so the rest of us don't have to. Some lenders reward that: they lend police more, skip lenders mortgage insurance or pay cash back. We search a panel of 75 lenders and tell you who's offering what right now.

Do police get better home loan deals?

Yes, at some lenders: bigger borrowing, no LMI, cash back or a special rate.

  • Borrow more: some lenders count all of your overtime and shift allowances if you work on the front line, not just part of them.
  • No lenders mortgage insurance: LMI is a one-off cost most lenders charge when you borrow more than 80% of the property's value. Some lenders will cover it or waive it for police. Conditions apply, so ask us who's offering it right now.
  • Cash back: some lenders pay police cash back when you buy or refinance. That can cover your loan costs, and even part of your first repayment. Conditions apply.
  • A special rate: some lenders offer police a special interest rate.

From lenders' own product sheets, policy documents and broker offers we hold, checked 14-10-2026. Offers change and end without notice, and conditions apply. General information only, not credit advice, and it does not consider your objectives, financial situation or needs.

How much can a police officer borrow?

It depends on your pay, your debts and your living costs. Your roster can lift it.

Base pay is the easy part. Most lenders count only part of your overtime, but some count all of it, and your shift allowances, for front-line police. Send us your last two payslips and we will tell you how much you could borrow.

Which police roles qualify?

Sworn officers in every state and territory police force, and in the Australian Federal Police. Some lenders also include civilian staff who work for a police force. Ask us about your role.

LMI waiver or the 5% Deposit Scheme?

Both can mean no lenders mortgage insurance. We check which one gets you the better result.

Common questions

Questions from police officers

Is there a special home loan for police officers?

Yes. Some lenders give police special deals, such as a special rate, cash back, no LMI or bigger borrowing. Offers change often, so ask us who's offering what right now.

Can I buy a home without paying LMI as a police officer?

You may be able to. Some lenders will cover or waive LMI for police officers. Conditions apply, so ask us who's offering it right now. First home buyers can also look at the 5% Deposit Scheme, which can mean no LMI with a 5% deposit.

Do lenders count my overtime?

Yes. Most lenders count part of it, and some count all of it for front-line police, which can lift how much you can borrow. Most want to see it is regular, on your year-to-date payslip or a recent payslip plus last year's income statement.

Can I get cash back on my home loan?

Sometimes. Some lenders pay police cash back when you buy or refinance. That can cover your loan costs, and even part of your first repayment. Conditions apply and offers come and go, so ask us which ones are running right now.

Can I get a home loan as a recruit or on probation?

Lenders differ on new jobs and probation, so tell us where you are up to and we will look for a lender that fits.

Does salary packaging count?

It can. Each lender reads salary packaging differently, so bring your packaging statement and we can look for one that counts it well.

Do you help police outside Queensland?

Yes. We are based in Queensland and lend Australia-wide, by phone or video call, including for the Australian Federal Police.
